Application & Design Engineer Intern

Supports engineering activities related to product design such as drawing creation, engineering specification, design reviews, engineering cost estimates, development timing determination, and support testing for value-added engine systems including, but not limited to, cooling packages, air intake systems, exhaust systems, controls systems, wire harnesses, mounting systems and all associated hardware. Assists design engineer in developing new designs and design improvements and application engineer in the testing of engine systems to evaluate vibrations, temperature, pressure and other performance parameters according to application guidelines. Provides engineering assistance to Isuzu related companies and departments when needed.

Minimum junior status in the pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. PC computer system usage and maintenance practices. CAD/CAM design system familiarization; SolidWorks preferred. Exposure to data acquisition/vibration equipment and to wiring harness design a plus. Good verbal and written communication skills. Proficient PC skills in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications. Strong analytical skills and internet search techniques. The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. This is primarily a sedentary position in a controlled office environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of office files, reports or records, typically weighing 5 lbs. or less. Requires occasional light lifting (5-25 lbs.) and on rare occasions, heavy lifting (60 lbs.). Test Engineer

Analyzes engine and vehicle testing to validate and certify production projects for North American applications. Applies engineering principles to improve the overall effectiveness and resource utilization of the PVRD test lab. Troubleshoots problems and develops solutions to meet complex testing requirements. Analyzes diesel engine calibration and emission certification testing on engine and chassis dynamometer test stands to ensure the quality of data generated meets customer requirements. Implements new test systems and measurement equipment into test cells. Investigates new technologies and suppliers to improve overall testing efficiency and effectiveness. Troubleshoots data quality and data acquisition issues and develops solutions or identifies vendors to supply solutions to encountered problems. Creates new and improves existing key processes and procedures related to KPI (key performance indicator) goals. Works with outside contractors and engineering facilities supplying services to our organization. Supports off site testing activities as required. Evaluates new regulatory requirements and their impact on test procedures. Attends conferences and training classes related to test systems, measurement equipment, and data acquisition software. Supports instrumentation and data acquisition tasks for vehicle based testing programs.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Minimum three years of experience with engine or vehicle testing. Minimum three years of experience with test automation equipment, emission benches, fuel and air flow measurement devices, and engine / powertrain control modules. Diesel or gasoline engine calibration experience preferred. Detailed understanding of principles of internal combustion engines and diesel exhaust after-treatment systems. Familiarity with federal regulations regarding engine testing procedures (40 CFR Part 1065/1066). Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Previous experience with measurement and analysis software, such as Matlab, LabView, UniPlot, and INCA. Effective oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and technicians. The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. At times this is a sedentary position in a controlled lab environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of items weighing 5 lbs. or less. At other times this position requires frequent bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting of 25-60 lbs. and heavy lifting on rare occasions. Senior Engineer, CV Engineering

Designs components or parts for commercial vehicles. Evaluates technical content, improves quality, reduces cost, makes effective decisions and meets schedules while considering all available alternatives. Reports activities and decisions to Manager for approval and guidance. Maintains and coordinates assigned projects and schedules. Reports status to management in a timely manner. Communicates effectively with ISZJ engineering, suppliers, production facilities, joint venture partners and other parties based on teamwork concepts. Coordinates with suppliers or other departments to achieve established targets per schedule. Assists and consults with other Isuzu departments and companies, sharing technical documentation to support Isuzu's collective objectives. Analyzes new technologies and trends. Prepares various reports and research results to management in both the U.S. and in Japan. Attends technical events/meetings at suppliers, GM, ISZJ, production facilities, potential Isuzu vendors, and others. Investigates North American (NA) CV competitors' vehicles or specific subsystems for competitive engineering research. Prepares presentations for reviews and information sharing. Prepares/evaluates engineering design drawings. Mentors Engineer I & II team members. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Minimum five years' experience in automotive product design engineering or equivalent. Strong knowledge of the design process for automotive components to include: Detailed engineering drawings and GD&T, Vehicle performance & packaging, FEA analysis (including basics of strength, fatigue and modal analysis), DFMEA, FTA, QC, & tolerance stack analysis, Threaded fasteners and bolt joints and Automotive parts knowledge for material selection (metal, plastic, textile), production processes, test methods, regulations, and component/sub-system design development process. Familiarity with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)/American Standard Test Method (ASTM). Basic operational skills with CAD/CAM design systems; Siemens NX & TcAE or similar. Familiarity with simulation software and common diagnostic equipment. Additional knowledge sets per specific job posting requirements: Advanced new technologies (examples may include: Electric Vehicle (EV), Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Autonomous Vehicle, Model-Based Design (MBD), Cybersecurity fundamentals, Telematics). Proficient PC skills in Windows applications/Microsoft Office and presentation applications. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to sketch, interpret drawings and 3D virtual designs. Investigative and research skills such as benchmarking, internet search techniques, etc. Good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to obtain and keep a commercial driving license and medical certificate. The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer.
