Sales Application Engineer

The Sales Application Engineer performs truck body application support for truck chassis modification and special equipment installation on Isuzu trucks. Provides technical data/information including 2D/3D data to body builders. Supports publication of Data Book and Body Builder's Guide.

Assists in body application engineering to Isuzu dealers and customers. Advises chassis selection, chassis modification using complex weight distribution, vehicle performance, and material stress calculations.

Provides engineering support data to body builders, dealers, customers, vendors, and other Isuzu departments (domestic and international) related to vehicle specifications, chassis data including CAD/Unigraphics (UG) chassis 2D/3D math data. Creates and controls non-disclosure agreements with body builders.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Minimum five years of experience in truck industry
  • Minimum two years of experience in Unigraphics operation

KNOWLEDGE

  • Basic automotive engineering, weight distribution/center of gravity/material stress calculations
  • Knowledge on the usage of technical materials such as service and parts manuals
  • Understanding of all federal and state: safety and emission standards, driver license requirements, and highway weight limitations

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Field Quality Engineer

Prepares detailed documentation to present at the Field Quality Meetings (FQM). Coordinates and tracks the status of each issue until resolution and completion. Investigates and analyzes warranty claims, Technical Information Reports (TIR), Technical Assistance Line (TAL) cases, and field product reports to support the FQM process. Follows-up with manufacturers and vendors to identify root-cause findings. Conducts special investigations and submits TIRs to Isuzu Motors Limited to support product improvements with engineering data. Supports field service group to resolve critical customer complaint issues. Evaluates and tests warranty parts returned to duplicate field complaints, determines root cause, and develops formal written reports to support corrective actions with manufacturers or vendors. Monitors large fleet service issues by analyzing and monitoring failures and complaints. Supports field service to improve customer dissatisfaction by prioritizing corrective actions for each fleet. Assists Service Readiness group to develop labor time guides, Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), diagnostic scan tools, workshop manuals, and related field corrective actions. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering. Minimum three years of automotive service/quality experience; mechanical background required. Strong mechanical and electronic expertise in troubleshooting repair, overhaul, and installation of commercial vehicle products. In-depth knowledge of diesel and gas engines, fuel electronics system, and exhaust gas after-treatment system. Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.). High ability to work independently and handle multiple objectives and cases at one time. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Proficient statistical analysis skills. Must maintain good driving record and driver license Class C or better with knowledge of commercial regulations. Must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. Must have the ability to work under a vehicle including bending, crawling, and stooping, and under some severe hot and cold conditions. Must have the ability to lift objects up to 60 lbs. Position requires approximately 10 to 25% travel including overnight stays and international travel, and occasional weekend travel/stays.

Test Engineer

Analyzes engine and vehicle testing to validate and certify production projects for North American applications. Applies engineering principles to improve the overall effectiveness and resource utilization of the PVRD test lab. Troubleshoots problems and develops solutions to meet complex testing requirements. Analyzes diesel engine calibration and emission certification testing on engine and chassis dynamometer test stands to ensure the quality of data generated meets customer requirements. Implements new test systems and measurement equipment into test cells. Investigates new technologies and suppliers to improve overall testing efficiency and effectiveness. Troubleshoots data quality and data acquisition issues and develops solutions or identifies vendors to supply solutions to encountered problems. Creates new and improves existing key processes and procedures related to KPI (key performance indicator) goals. Works with outside contractors and engineering facilities supplying services to our organization. Supports off site testing activities as required. Evaluates new regulatory requirements and their impact on test procedures. Attends conferences and training classes related to test systems, measurement equipment, and data acquisition software. Supports instrumentation and data acquisition tasks for vehicle based testing programs.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Minimum three years of experience with engine or vehicle testing. Minimum three years of experience with test automation equipment, emission benches, fuel and air flow measurement devices, and engine / powertrain control modules. Diesel or gasoline engine calibration experience preferred. Detailed understanding of principles of internal combustion engines and diesel exhaust after-treatment systems. Familiarity with federal regulations regarding engine testing procedures (40 CFR Part 1065/1066). Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Previous experience with measurement and analysis software, such as Matlab, LabView, UniPlot, and INCA. Effective oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and technicians. The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. At times this is a sedentary position in a controlled lab environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of items weighing 5 lbs. or less. At other times this position requires frequent bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting of 25-60 lbs. and heavy lifting on rare occasions. Must be able to participate in occasional travel/weekend work; less than 10%.
